Alan Dear, SSCO Thomas Clarkson Community College

Job Title.   School Sport Co-Coordinator

I work with The Thomas Clarkson Community College family of schools.

Brief  background.  I was born in Winchester and educated mainly in Portsmouth before training to be a Teacher in London.  I taught PE in London for five years before moving to Wisbech where I continued to teach P.E. until I retired from my full time post in Aug 2007. I was Head of PE until I took up my present post in Sept. 2006.

Interests.  Sport, as you can imagine, has always played a very important part in my life. I have never tired of it. I have played numerous sports competitively including, football, tennis, table tennis, squash, golf, athletics, volleyball, and cross country as well as many other sports socially. I have seen so many examples of communities being brought together through sport and numerous individuals who have had their self confidence boosted by it.

Walking in the Countryside and enjoying it’s wildlife takes up quite a lot of my leisure time these days as well as Skiing and of course Golf.

My principle aim is to encourage and support the children attending our family of schools to participate enthusiastically in physical activities in and out of curriculum time, and to raise their awareness of the numerous sporting opportunities offered by clubs in the local community.

I hope to do this by

  • Supporting the work done by Jane Ward, the Primary Link Teachers and the PE teachers at The Thomas Clarkson Community College, when planning and implementing the family plan.
  • Co-ordinating the Wisbech Family Plan with the Wichford Partnership Plan.
  • Encouraging schools to improve their PESSCL / PESSYP Survey results.
